Mr. Anthony Carl Russell, Sr., age 76, entered eternal rest on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey.
Anthony was born on December 16, 1947 in Durham, North Carolina to the late James Willis Russell and the late Annie Margaret Russell.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal savior and became a member of Mill Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Roxboro, North Carolina. Anthony graduated from Person County High School as a member of the “Class of 1966”. He was also a 1970 graduate of Elizabeth City College in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. In 1974, Anthony joined Pilgrim Baptist Church in New Jersey where he served on the Deacon and Trustee Boards. He had a successful career in teaching and coaching football in the Newark, New Jersey School System, where he was employed until his retirement. Anthony served his country as a member of the Army Reserves.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Janie Faye Russell, Annie Beatrice Russell and Debra Russell Haugabrook-Briggs; and brother James Davis Russell.
Mr. Anthony Carl Russell, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory his wife Tina Poole Russell of Vauxhall, New Jersey; sons Anthony C. Russell, Jr. (Silvy) of Bridgewater, New Jersey and Kyle D. Russell of Bladensburg, Maryland; brothers Willie Torain of Portsmouth, Virginia; Haywood Russell (Kaye) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Joseph Russell (Linda-Lemay) of Timberlake, North Carolina; and Ronnie Russell (Roxie) of Roxboro, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law Wanda Poole and J. Esther Adams, both of Vauxhall, New Jersey; God daughter Tamara Williams of South Orange, New Jersey; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, additional relatives and friends.
