Mrs. Shirley Thorpe Burton, age 86, departed her Earthly life and entered eternal rest on Friday, February 6, 2026 at Roxboro Assisted Living in Roxboro, North Carolina.
She was born in Person County on March 2, 1939 to the union of the late Elbert Thorpe, Sr. and the late Vivian Hughes Thorpe.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Buddy Burton; three brothers: Elbert Thorpe, Jr., Ed Thorpe and Carver “Chuck” Thorpe; and three sisters: Mary Davis, Mamie Majors and Venita Faulkner.
Mrs. Shirley Thorpe Burton leaves to cherish her memory her sons: David L. Burton and Van E. Burton (wife Diena) of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; daughter Kathryn Catrice Burton of Durham, North Carolina; step-daughter Carolyn Yellock of Yorktown Heights, New York; four grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; brothers: Lawrence “Chester” Thorpe (wife Vera) of Cedar Grove, North Carolina and Jim Thorpe (wife Carol) of Heathrow, Florida; sisters: Christeen Torian and Patricia T. Hatchett, both of Roxboro, North Carolina; and Barbara Murphy (husband James) of Woodbridge, Virginia; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, additional relatives and friends.
