Mr. John Elbert Bumphus, known to many as "Bump", age 86, of Roxboro, North Carolina entered eternal rest on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. He was a native of Person County and a member of Zion Level Missionary Baptist in Semora, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen Yvonne Richmond Bumphus; daughter Vanessa Farrish; and parents Clyde and Ruth Brandon Bumphus.
Mr. John Elbert “Bump” Bumphus leaves to cherish his memory his wife Shirl Bumphus of Leasburg, North Carolina; daughters Deborah Stephens, Charlene Hairston (Jerry) and Veronica Holloway, all of Roxboro, North Carolina; special daughter Priscilla Bumphus of Graham, North Carolina; son Angelo Bumphus (Sandra) of Roxboro, North Carolina; son-in-law Gene Farrish of Durham, North Carolina; sisters-in-law Cathy Bumphus, Mary Winstead, Frances Richmond and Barbara Blaine, all of Roxboro, North Carolina; brothers-in-law Reverend Larry Smith, Jr. of Greensboro, North Carolina and Donald Richmond (Shirley) of Baltimore, Maryland; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 14 great great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, additional relatives and friends.
