Mr. Johnnie Richard Shaw, age 66, of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.

Johnnie was born on March 25, 1955 to the late Alexander Shaw and the late Classie Jacobs Shaw – the youngest of ten children and the first to be born in a hospital.

Johnnie was a member of Person Senior High School - “Class of 1973”. He was the first child in his family to attend college and graduated from North Carolina Central University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. He owned and managed his own sheetrock construction business for over 40 years – until his health declined in 2016.

Johnnie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Union Grove Baptist Church. He was always present and supportive of every program that was held at church. His love and dedication for Christ led him to serve in many capacities in the church, including as a Custodian, Bible Study Youth Instructor, Parking Attendant, Member of the Planning and Building, First Aid and Safety, Yearbook, and Finance Committees, Audio Sound Team, and Board of Trustees. He attended Sunday School every Sunday.

In addition to his parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by four brothers Reverend Henderson Shaw, Alex Shaw, James Shaw and Willie Lee Shaw; and one sister Josie Shaw Simmons.

Johnnie leaves to cherish his memory four loving and dedicated siblings Katie Shaw Farrish Harshaw of Cedar Grove, North Carolina; Mildred Shaw Bradsher of Roxboro, North Carolina; Fannie Shaw Wade (the late Ben) of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina; and Alvin Shaw of the home; one sister-in-law Linda Harris Shaw; life-long friend Clarence Hamlett; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
